Some Great Fans

We are currently on a 7 day road trip. Last night we played the first game of a 3 game series against the Columbus Clippers. Huntington Park where the Clippers play is a beautiful stadium and is brand new. The weather was very cold and rainy but we were able to get the game in after a quick 15 minute rain delay. I was playing left field and the left field bleachers were filled with some great fans. They were all over me from the first pitch to the last pitch of the game. I was having a great time listening to some of the stuff they were coming up with. They must have really enjoyed saying my last name because they were screaming it the entire game. The entire outfield bleachers were spelling out my name and chanting it throughout the game. Anytime I would glance back at them and give them a smile it was like throwing gas on a fire and they would go crazy. There was a fan even giving me advice for names and headings for my blog. It was great and a lot of fun. I think I am playing first base tonight so whoever is out in left tonight may have to concentrate a little bit harder. They were great baseball fans and never cross the line, however they did get in my head and had me thinking about them more than the game at times. I threw a couple balls into the stands to show my appreciation to them. It is always fun interacting with the fans and you never know what you’re going to hear coming out of the stands. It was an exciting game with several lead changes and the Bats come out on top 7-6.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims involved in the Nick Adenhart car accident. Jon Wilhite was a passenger in the car that was hit and was the only survivor. Jon was a teammate of mine for three years at Cal State Fullerton. He was one of the most liked guys on the team and one of the best teammates I have ever had. He is in stable condition and I pray he gets through this difficult time. It is a terrible tragedy that makes you appreciate your friends and family even more. My heart goes out to those involved in this tragic time.

What’s up everybody? I apologize for not posting for awhile. I’ve been pretty busy and spring training can sure wear you out. I appreciate all the comments and feedback you guys have given me and I enjoy reading them. Please feel free to ask any specific questions that you may have about myself or what it is like playing minor league baseball and I will try and address as many as I can. Since my last post we have been spending some long hours out on the field and in the cages. This is my third spring training and has been my most successful camp in part to that fact I came in healthy and stayed healthy. I believe staying healthy is one of the greatest factors to success in this game. This spring training I was fortunate enough to get called over to play in a couple of our big league team’s spring training games. It was a lot of fun and is definitely the place you want to be playing as opposed to the minor leagues. In three days we break camp and I along with several other minor leaguers are flying with the big league team to play in an exhibition game at our Double A and Low A affiliates against the big league team. I look forward to playing in Dayton, Ohio which is where our Low A team plays. I never had the opportunity to play there but anyone who has, said nothing but great things about the stadium and their fans. From there we will be heading to our assigned affiliate to start the season. Everybody around camp is very ready for spring training to be done so we can get the season rolling. I have to give a shout out to my good friend Ricky Romero who made the Blue Jays starting rotation this spring. We were roommates in college for three years and always joke about who was going to get to the big leagues first. He is a great pitcher and even better person so we are all excited for him. I will get back on here more frequently and let you guys know how things are going.

Starting Up Again

Hello everybody! My name is Danny Dorn and I play outfield and first base for the Cincinnati Reds Organization. I was born and raised in Diamond Bar California where I attended Cal State Fullerton and was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 2006. Well, it’s that time of year when the weather begins to heat up and the baseball season begins. I worked hard during my off season to stay in shape so I’m ready to go! Our spring training is currently located in Sarasota, Florida. Next year we will be moving to Goodyear Arizona and from what I have heard and read it is going to be a beautiful facility. Being from the west coast, I will not miss flying across the country and it will be nice to be closer to home. However, Sarasota is very nice with warm sunshine and beautiful beaches. Minor league camp for position players officially started March 10^th, but I came down a few days earlier to get settled in and get many of the fitness tests out of the way that must be completed at the beginning of spring. I always look forward to spring training so I can finally get out on the field and get those competitive juices flowing again. It is always great to see the many friends that I have made through playing baseball. I will try and keep the posts coming to keep you guys updated on what is happening in Sarasota.
